1 John 5:9-13
Good News Translation (GNT)
*************************
9 We believe human testimony; but God's
testimony is much stronger, and he has given
this testimony about his Son.
10 So those who believe in the Son of God have
this testimony in their own heart; but those
who do not believe God, have made a liar of
him, because they have not believed what
God has said about his Son.
11 The testimony is this: God has given us
eternal life, and this life has its source in his
Son.
12 Whoever has the Son has this life; whoever
does not have the Son of God does not have
life.
Eternal Life
13 I am writing this to you so that you may know
that you have eternal life - you that believe in
the Son of God.

The Witness about
Jesus Christ
1 John 5:9-13
When Jesus was baptised,
the people present heard God
say from heaven,
"You are my Son, whom I love".
Men saw Jesus die on the cross,
and then with their own eyes
they saw Him alive again
three days later!
The apostles spent the rest of their lives
giving witness to these things which
they had seen and heard.
But God's own testimony is greater
than man's testimony.
God's witness is the Holy Spirit,
who lives in us and through whom we
experience God's presence, power, and love.
Because of the testimony of the Holy Spirit
in our hearts, our faith can be just as strong
as the apostles' faith.
First we hear the Gospel -
the testimony of men.
Then we believe in the Son of God.
And then we receive the testimony of
the Holy Spirit in our hearts.
Through the Holy Spirit our
faith becomes even stronger.
If we reject the Gospel of Christ,
we call God a liar.
We have rejected the Spirit of truth.
This is the testimony - the Gospel:
God has given us eternal life,
and this life is in his Son.
God gave His Son Jesus,
that whoever believes in him
may have eternal life.
Without faith in him,
there can be no eternal life
Concluding Remarks (5:13)
John wrote his Gospel that you may believe
that Jesus is the Christ,
the Son of God, and that by believing
you may have life in his name.
Now, in this letter, John is writing to
believers in order that their faith might
become even more strong and certain -
in order that they might know
that they have eternal life.
