The Wedding Feast of the Lamb
Revelation 19:6-10
Good News Translation (GNT)
*************************
6 Then I heard what sounded like a crowd, like
the sound of a roaring waterfall, like loud
peals of thunder. I heard them say, "Praise
God! For the Lord, our Almighty God, is King!
7 Let us rejoice and be glad; let us praise his
greatness! For the time has come for the
wedding of the Lamb, and his bride has
prepared herself for it.
8 She has been given clean shining linen
to wear."
(The linen is the good deeds of God's people.)
9 Then the angel said to me, "Write this: Happy
are those who have been invited to the
wedding feast of the Lamb." And the angel
added, "These are the true words of God."
10 I fell down at his feet to worship him, but he
said to me, "Don't do it! I am a servant
together with you and with other believers,
all those who hold to the truth that Jesus
revealed. Worship God!
For the truth that Jesus revealed is what
inspires the prophets.

The Wedding of the Lamb
Revelation 19:6-10
In John's vision,
the multitude shouted:
"the wedding of the Lamb has come"
That is,
the wedding was about to occur.
The Lamb is Christ.
The bride of the Lamb
is the church - that is,
the great multitude of
believers in heaven.
The bride had made
herself ready;
she had purified herself
and washed her clothes
in the blood of the Lamb.
She had become a bride
without stain or wrinkle
or any other blemish.
She was clothed in fine linen,
bright and clean;
that is, she was clothed
in the righteous acts
of the saints - of believers.
All believers have been
created by God to perform
these righteous acts.
The believers mentioned in
verses 6-8 are, in one way,
the bride of Christ.
But in verse 9,
John says that,
in another way,
believers are also the guests
invited to Christ's wedding feast.
To be a bride and to be
a wedding guest are,
of course,
very different; but,
in either case,
the meaning of the two
analogies is the same.
In order to marry Christ,
the bride must be
prepared and worthy.
In order to come to the wedding feast,
the guests must likewise be
prepared and worthy.
Thus, whether as bride or guest,
believers must be both prepared
and worthy to take part
in the wedding of the Lamb.
Then John fell down and
began to worship the mighty angel,
mistakenly thinking that
the angel was Christ.
The angel immediately said:
"Don't worship me.
Worship God!
I am a fellow servant,
just like you".
From this we are reminded
that we must never worship
any king, any priest,
any angel or spirit;
we must worship only
the one true triune God -
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
For the testimony of Jesus
is the spirit of prophecy.
That is, the true source of
revelation and testimony
is not angels and prophets
but rather Jesus Himself,
about whom angels and
prophets have spoken.
Only God's one true incarnation,
Jesus Christ,
is worthy to be worshiped.
