Strong, Single Christians
************************
Being single and Christian is no easy task in this day and age.
Our external environment subjects us to a constant barrage of subtle messages suggesting that we need another person to "complete" us so that we can succeed in life.
However, staying rooted in God's Word reveals that we're already whole and successful as long as we're in Christ.
Our success and our strength are on every level, including the ability to overcome life's trials when they show up.
Tribulations come to everyone, married or single; our response determines whether we stay stuck in a situation or move through it.
There's a purpose behind everything that happens - even suffering.
Bad things are never God's will, but He allows them to happen to mature us and grow us spiritually.
Knowing that God will never abandon us in our situation can make it easier to persevere in the midst of it.
"The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, And delivers them out of all their troubles ... Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the Lord delivers him out of them all"
Psalm 34:17,19, NKJV).
Depending on ourselves or our own plans to get in and out of relationships is simply self-reliance.
God wants to bring us to the point where we automatically rely on Him whether we're in trouble or not.
However, going through suffering and painful situations perfects us by burning out any tendencies we may have to rely on ourselves.
Jesus, who went though much suffering, is our example in this area.
It was only right that God, who creates and preserves all things, should make Jesus perfect through suffering, in order to bring many children to share his glory. For Jesus is the one who leads them to salvation.
Hebrews 2:10, GNV
Despite all the persecutions Jesus went through, He never wavered in His dependence on the Father.
He seemed to have every right to, especially when faced with death on a cross and going to hell.
The temptation to avoid it must have been great, yet He didn't run from it.
"Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done"
Luke 22:42
Faith in what Christ went through for us without shying away from it puts our temporary situation in a whole new light.
Life will never be perfect, and neither will relationships.
This is normal, because they're not supposed to be.
We would never become stronger if there were no external pressures coming against us to challenge our way of thinking.
The difference between the believer and the world is that our faith in God gives us peace of mind that He's bigger than whatever happens in our lives.
"These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world"
John 16:33
An easy life is a life devoid of growth and development, and one not worth living.
A mindset that thinks through the momentary trouble helps us to continue moving forward, no matter how hard relationships get.
"For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us"
Romans 8:18
The single Christian who is mature enough to let God lead the way when trouble hits will come out of it stronger and wiser than before.
Knowing the purpose of suffering strengthens us on our Christian journey, no matter what season of our lives we're in.
