"Be strong and courageous"

The powerful meaning of Deuteronomy 31 v 6

************************

Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.

.... Deuteronomy 31:6

In a world filled with uncertainties and countless challenges, this verse offers hope-filled and comforting words.

I believe this verse will be a source of inspiration and a challenge for you in your life and faith.

The book of Deuteronomy was written by Moses to the Israelites as they prepared to enter the Promised Land.
The book gives a review of the laws given in the previous books (Exodus, Leviticus, and Numbers), reminds its readers of God's faithfulness, challenges them to obey God, and promises blessings if they are faithful.
As we get to Deuteronomy 31 we see Moses transferring his leadership to Joshua and is preparing them for the challenges that lie ahead.
They are about to enter into a new era that will bring both joy and challenges.
The mantle of leadership is about to be passed from Moses to Joshua, and this verse has some incredible truth for all of God's people.

While this verse was written to the nation of Israel, there is still some incredible truth for us today.
Deuteronomy 31:6 starts off with the command to "be strong and courageous."

This is acknowledging that there will be things that stand against them; they will have adversaries that oppose what God is doing.
But rather than living in fear and intimidation they need not be afraid of them.

How can the Israelites not be afraid when they face formidable enemies and sizable obstacles?
Because God is with them.

Moses emphasizes that the Lord goes with the Israelites.
The promise that God will "never leave you nor forsake you" underscores his faithfulness.
It assures the Israelites that God's commitment to them is unwavering, even in the midst of difficulties.

This verse is a message of encouragement, urging individuals to face life's challenges with strength and courage.
The reason for this courage is not just personal strength but the assurance of God's presence and his unchanging commitment to be with his people.
This message is not limited to the historical context of the Israelites, but has universal application for all followers of God.

God is bigger than whatever it is we are facing.

Life is filled with uncertainties, difficulties, and adversaries.
Fear is a natural response to these challenges, but the lesson of Deuteronomy 31:6 is to resist being overwhelmed by fear.
The assurance of God's presence serves as a foundation for freedom from paralyzing fear.
God is with us, and he has the power to protect us.
Therefore, we do not need to let fear dictate our faith.

When we are going through a storm it's tempting to think that we walk alone.
(Remember footprints in the sand)
That's why Deuteronomy 31:6 reminds us of the promise that "the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you."

When we are going through a difficult season we have to continually remind ourselves of God's presence.
God is faithful, and he is with you.
His companionship is unwavering, providing comfort and assurance in all seasons of your life.

When we see that God is with us and choose to have faith over fear we can be strong and courageous.
When we know who is behind us, we can confidently step into whatever is in front of us.

Therefore we can live with courage.

So, go be bold. Trust God and see what he can do.

ABOUT RETHINK
I created Rethink to help followers of Jesus understand what the Bible says and how to align their life with God's word.
In the past few years I've seen cultural preferences and traditions have influenced our beliefs about Jesus, the church, and the Bible.
Many of the issues that Christianity is known for today are not the issues that Jesus concerned himself with.
I think it's time to rethink.
I think it's time to follow Jesus' example.
I think it's time to do church differently.
I think it's time to read the Bible the way it was intended to be read.
That's why I created Rethink.
This is a place to examine God's word together and figure out how we can live out his truth in our everyday lives.
